Disk Performance

If you think your applications are running slow because of missing Disk performance, the first thing you should check is on what controller emulation your server is running.

Our default settings are made for compatibility and not necessarily for performance to make sure that what ever OS ( Linux / Windows / BSD / ... ) you might want to run, that it will usually always work.

We offer a selection of disk controller emulations to run your OS / application on.

This and much more can be configured in the control panel of your server.

You will find by logging into the clientarea and clicking:

-> services

-> your server that you ordered

In the control panel you will find on the right hand side the tab "Settings" and under settings you will find "Hardware".

Clicking on it will open a window with all kind of hardware settings like the NIC emulation, Harddisk Bus Emulation or SCSI Controller Type.

Since we are using open source virtualization software, the best results in terms of performance you will achieve using the Virtio Emulations.

So you should configure the

-> Harddisk Bus Emulation to use virtio

-> SCSI Controller Type Emulation to use virtio single

ATTENTION: Please make sure that you will NOT choose something that is not compatible with the OS you installed! For example if you are running a Windows OS, it will usually not work with Virtio IF you did not install the virtio drivers in the system when you installed your OS! If you choose a harddisk or controller emulation that is not supported by your OS because of for example lacking drivers, your OS will most probably stop working or even booting!

After you changed the hardware according to your wishes, you can just click update hardware settings.

This will change your server hardware according to your settings. After a hardware restart ( Power Off / Power On ) the new setting will become active.

Please check again if your application is still running too slow.

If the problem remains, please open a ticket and include some informations what exactly is slow and why do you think its disk related.
